We will post all of these - plus any new JOINT CHIEFS performance info - on our GIGS and our MySpace pages, as soon as we can.

LIVE RADIO PERFORMANCE ALERT ! ! !

We have been asked to perform LIVE on WWUH in West Hartford, CT next Thursday September 20, as part of the "IT'S ALL LIVE " concert celebration of their 40th Anniversary.  Thanks to our friend Pete "River City Slim" Rost, long time host of the Thursday morning Pine Grove Blues Show, we will have a full hour from 7am to 8am to play and talk...certainly two things we know how to do....You can also tune in online at www.wwuh.org .

Special thanks to all of our friends - new and old - who braved the rain, thunder & lightning to join us last Saturday night at the beautiful Dewey Hall in Sheffield, MA.  We love being able to play a totally acoustic show, and the exquisite ambience of the room made for a memorable evening for all.  Earlier in the day, the song swap at the Jane Lloyd Fund Benefit Clambake in Salisbury, CT brought some of our favorite NW CT musicians together for some great picking and singing....thanks to all of you - and you know who you are !

It has been a great summer for the chiefs, including the pleasure we had opening for JUDY COLLINS at the inaugural Lime Rock Track Concert (in support of Tri-Arts in Sharon, CT) in late July....Other stops included the PROJECT TROUBADOR GROVE FESTIVAL in Lakeville, CT....the KENT SUMMER DAYS celebration in Kent, CT...and what has now become our annual summer eve concert for the residents of Winchester, CT.  Our sincere thanks to all of you who have made the chiefs feel so welcome along the way.

Look for us playing up in Sheffield, MA in early September....and DO NOT FORGET to support the Jane Lloyd Fund by attending the New England Clam Bake Fundraiser in Salisbury, CT earlier that day.....and our annual acoustic gig at MUSIC MOUNTAIN in Falls Village, CT in support of the James Hunt Library later in the month.

Onward.....

With our appearances this past Saturday & Sunday at the Clearwater Festival the Chiefs made a major push out of the CT hills and closer to the greater metropolitan NY area.  We got 'em up and jumping in the Dance Tent with the help of our friends Terry Hall on Drums and Pete Adams on Pedal Steel.  We could not have asked for a better response....even sold out of cd's.  A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO MADE THE TRIP ! ! ! ! .... and check out the Pictures Page for some new pics.

Next up after a brief late afternoon appearance at the Project Troubador Grove Festival in Lakeville on Saturday June 30 will be 2 sets at Manna Dew Cafe in Amenia, NY July 6.

We had tons of fun doing the radio shows promoting the Ancram Opera House concert on May 12.  Thanks to WAMC and WKZE for their help, and to all of you who let us know that you had heard our on-air performances.  Louise left for another trip to the DR right after we celebrated the marriage of George's daughter, Kate, on May 19th.  Despite Louise's hectic schedule, she will be back in plenty of time for our appearance at Manna Dew on June 1st.  After that we will begin rehearsals for our appearance on the Dance Stage at the Clearwater Festival on June 16 & 17.

Please come to see us there!

More GOOD NEWS....we have been asked to perform at the Clearwater Festival in Croton-on-Hudson, NY on Saturday & Sunday, June 16 & 17.  Originally founded by the venerable folk music pioneer PETE SEEGER, the festival has been held for over 35 years in support of environmental cleanup efforts on the Hudson River.  The festival is visited by more than 15,000 visitors per year and features a diverse mix of music, dance, storytelling and environmental exhibits.  This year's musical performers include Bruce Cockburn, Paul Winter, Leo Kottke, Buffy Sainte-Marie and the Cowboy Junkies....not to mention Mr. Pete Seeger himself.  Click on http://www.clearwater.org/festival.html for more information.  Once the times for our performances are set, we will post them on our Gigs page, and also send out a blast to all of you on our email list.

We are also planning to have a couple of friends join us onstage that weekend: Pete Adams on pedal steel and Terry Hall on drums.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE ! !

April 11, 2007

After a few of months of travel and semi-quiet down time, we have some GOOD NEWS...

We have been invited to perform on WAMC Radio's show, Performance Place.  As the home station of Northeast Public Radio, and a member station of the National Public Radio network, WAMC has been a long time supporter of local music and performing artists.  Thanks to an invitation from Michael Eck, the show's host, we will be taping a one half hour show on the afternoon of Monday April 30th for broadcast a few days later - - in support of our May 12th show at the Ancram Opera House.   For more information, link thru to the WAMC website at http://www.wamc.org/performanceplace.html

ALSO: plans are afoot for a live performance on our other favorite local station, WKZE in Red Hook, NY, on the afternoon of May 7th.....more details to follow!

February 2007

HELLO and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.....

First a quick note of thanks to our friends at the Old Parish Church in Sheffield, Massachusetts, whose exquisite  sounding nave was the site of our mid-January concert.  The Chiefs always seem to thrive in this type of setting, where the lively resonant acoustics allow us to perform without our PA system.

We are currently working on some new bookings for March and April, probably back at MANNA DEW...and it looks like we will be doing another "all acoustic" evening with Joan and Jim at the Ancram Opera House soon.  Check back for details.

Also, don't forget to sign up for our email list (see the button above left)!

Ciao for now....

The fall season is fast upon us....get those woolies warmed up.

We enjoyed seeing all of you at the House Concert Series at the Douglas Library in Canaan, CT, and encourage you to keep supporting this type of local live music!   George unfortunately had to be elsewhere on the night of the annual Evening of Words and Music at Music Mountain, and so Louise & Eliot gallantly played on - closing out the night with a great set of old country & folk duets...if you were able to be there, you know what a wonderful & unique evening it was.

Speaking of Louise & Eliot, they are on their way to the Dominican Republic in October with Los Ciegos del Barrio for a series of concerts.  Louise will then travel down to Central America in order to continue her medical work, returning in late November.  This means that our Manna Dew gig on September 29th will be our last date until December.  SO, COME ON DOWN ! ! !

August 7, 2006

After a week of incredible heat and humidity, the weather finally broke last weekend just in time for a beautiful outdoor evening concert on the green in Winchester, CT.  Many thanks to all of you who came out in support of the Chiefs and The Heifer Project.  Thanks also to Dan Tolman and the members of the First Congregational Church of Winchester who put the event together.  We look forward to returning to your beautiful corner of CT very soon.

After a couple of weeks vacation, next stop for us will be the Evening of Words and Music, at the acoustically magical Music Mountain in Falls Village, CT on September 9th.  This is the 9th year we have played there, and if you haven't heard us in this annual "all acoustic" concert, you are in for a real treat.  Last year, the author Frank McCourt read from his new book; this year promises to be another superb evening of entertainment in support of the D. M. Hunt Library in Falls Village.

Tempus Fugit...and then some.

Last night we played outside in the sunken garden at the incredibly beautiful Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, CT.  Built around 1900 on a hill top just outside of Hartford, they host a wonderful summer poetry series that has gained national recognition.  We were joined on stage by our good friend Brian Melick on percussion, whose big chops and musical ears are outshone only by his big musical heart.....We look forward to having him back asap - "I'm Only Sleeping" never sounded better.

And don't forget to support Green River, Gray Fox, Falcon Ridge and the rest of our NE festivals!

April 28, 2006

A great night at the Ancram Opera House on 4/22....What was certainly a stellar and reaffirming evening for the 3 of us was largely a function of adding such an attentive listening audience to what Jim and Joan afforded us... a lovely sounding space in which we could so clearly hear each other, and that allowed our musical alchemy the room to bloom.  Make no mistake - your focus and spirited applause is what really ratcheted up our performance, allowing us to soar and dive at such dizzying heights... whatever those who were there feel that you received that night pales in comparison to what we were given in return.

Thanks to each of you for your part in creating such a memorable evening... E, L & G

March 2006

We're back, more or less in one piece.....Louise keeps talking to us Spanish, and Eliot hasn't quite made the time change yet, but were in the saddle again.  Thanks to all who came out last Friday at Manna Dew Cafe in  Millerton, NY to welcome us - it was GREAT.  We even debuted some of our new material during the second set, and nobody threw anything at us, so ......It looks like we're going to be back at Club Helsinki in Great Barrington, MA in late May or June - so check back on the GIGS page for details.  Also, don't forget the Kent Cultural Arts Council's Summer Concert Series in Kent, CT this summer; we'll be back there too at some point......Onward into Spring....

December 22, 2005

We have had a wonderful 2005, thanks to all of you out there.   We will be taking some time off during the holidays and for about 6 weeks thereafter.  Eliot will be going back to Cameroon in early February with Project Troubador, and Louise will return to the Dominican Republic for most of January to continue her clinical work there.  George will be appearing at the Fife 'n Drum in Kent on Friday's and Saturday's in early January - flying solo for a couple of weeks.

This means the next time the CHIEFS see you will be the Saturday after Valentine's Day at the Red Lion....for more information follow the link to our GIGS page.

There are also a couple of nice new shots posted on the PICTURES page, taken last July in Kent by Jonathan Doster of Sharon, CT - check them out, too.

Our heartfelt thanks to all of you for coming out and supporting us this past year......now onward to 2006!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to All......

We added the Cornwall Inn to our list of venues this month, and enjoyed playing to the packed house there on 11/4...look for us to be back there in February or March.  Another highlight of our month was attending the Northeast Region Folk Alliance Conference at Kutshers in Monticello, NY.   We spent two days listening to and playing with musicians from Texas to Ontario, handed out over 100 copies of " HALF FAST ", played "pirate showcases" all hours of the day and night, and came away with an even greater appreciation for the folk music community.  We would love to hear feedback from those folks who heard us for the first time at Kutshers, and look forward to sharing our music with an even wider audience in the months to come.

October 3, 2005

The annual all-acoustic gig at Music Mountain proved to be another high point for us this past month, as it is every year.  This year we closed the show after a reading by Pulitzer Prize winning writer Frank McCourt, the author of Angela's Ashes.  The evening's program of words and music, held in support of the Hunt Library in Falls Village, was all the richer by his presence this year, and the sell-out crowd was very responsive throughout the entire evening; also included was a reading by author Betsy Howie and a solo piano performance by Joshua Stone.  Next year's date will probably be September 9th, so keep the date open.

~~~~~~~~~
We lost our dear friend Jane Lloyd to cancer on September 14th.  Jane was one of our original fans, and her strawberry hair and smiling face was visible at many of our gigs over the years.  Donations in Jane's memory be made to the Jane Lloyd Cancer Fund through the Berkshire Taconic Foundation  The Fund provides financing in support of patients and their families in towns throughout Northwestern Connecticut.
